  1. July 14-15 was our first fundraising effort out in the community, and we were delighted to see so many people stop by our booth. We gave out information, made lots of friends, and were able to connect with some great people who share our passion for supporting the community.

The fantastic folks at Frost and Top Pot Donuts donated dozens of their delicious and absolutely beautiful pastries, and our friends at the Starbucks located at 164th and Bothell-Everett Highway donated their great coffee, making our booth the place to be to get some awesome donuts and coffee.

We also had Krispy Kreme doughnuts and doughnut holes through their fundraiser program, much to the delight of many families. The holes (contrary to our board member George’s contention that the holes have no calories) were easy to share little bites that left no messy faces to clean.

Our handcuff K-9 bottle openers were a big hit, and will remain a free thank-you gift to donors who give$20 or more.

There was one sad downside to this first fundraiser, and that was the theft of our donation container on Saturday afternoon. During the only time when our booth did not have two people manning it, someone took the container with over $150 in it while our one member who was manning the booth was distracted.

As soon as the money was discovered missing a hand-written notice was put up on our banner asking whomever stole the donation jar please return it. The result of posting that sign was absolutely amazing! People began stopping by our booth expressing outrage that someone would take a donation jar. Many of them came up to us and started digging into their pockets and purses for change and a few dollars to donate! Children put in their pennies, adults put in everything from 50 cents to twenty dollars, and the outpouring of support from all those people was just humbling and so very encouraging.

So, there were both good and bad as well as some highs and lows, but at the end of the day our first fundraising event was absolutely wonderful. The theft was an education we needed to have, and will serve us well moving forward, the outpouring of support from the community was just beautiful to see, and we were able to make a lot of new friends.

Our fundraising goal for this first effort was $1,000 and our total actual donation total so far is $781.01. It is definitely a start and we are very encouraged and excited about that.

Thank you to everyone who came by our booth, and thank you to those who expressed interest in joining our organization! We look forward to getting to know you and have you visit our next board meeting.
